Robert Boyd / Jean McClymport

Kilmarnock, Scotland to Virginia

  Ancestors of John F. Walker

Robert Boyd b. 1673, Ayr, Ayrshire Scotland married Jean McClymport b. 1677, also of Ayr.  They had Robert.

Robert b. 1699, born in Ayrshire married Elizabeth Anderson b. abt. 1703, were married on 14 Feb. 1723/24.  They had at least seven children : James, b. 1725, John, b. 1727, Elizabeth, b. 1729, David, b. 1737, Mary, b. 1738, Agnes, b. 1741 Alexander, b1743.

"Historic Vance County" by John Bullock Watkins (1941) says "Alexander Boyd (1743-1801) was one of four brothers who came from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, to Virginia."  (I have several references to this fact.)  Alexander is said to be the founder of Boydton, Mecklenburg County, VA.  Richard Swepson (Alexander's wife was Ann Swepson) was security for George Farrar's and Elizabeth Boyd's marriage.  It is my belief that either John, James or David Boyd is next in my line.  But I can't establish which one it was.

The daughter of one of Alexander's brothers was Elizabeth Boyd .  She married George Farrar (1762-1819) on 22 Feb 1783 in Mecklenburg Co., VA. (George was a great grandson of Judith Jefferson, aunt of President Thomas Jefferson.)  They had 10 children (I have a copy of George's will and he names them).  One of those children was Judith Farrar (1793-1836).

Judith married Redmond Rudd Smith (1794-1881) on 17 February 1824 in Mecklenburg County, VA.  They had 7 children one of which was George Field Smith (1829-1899).  Judith died and Redmond married her sister Rebecca (1794-1881). Redmond Rudd with his second wife, his son George Field and George's wife, his other three sons William, Thomas and Augustus "Gus," came to Dallas County, Arkansas in 1855.  Their farm was three miles west of Princeton.  Redmond and Rebecca are buried in unmarked graves in Princeton Cemetery, Dallas County, Arkansas.

George Field Smith and his wife Susan Dudley Mallet (1834-1904) had 8 children, one of which was William Redmond Smith (1859-1924).

William Redmond Smith married Lou Allie Launius (1878-1951).  They had five children, one of which was my mother Ruby Erline Smith (1908-1978).

Ruby Erline Smith married John Franklin Walker (1903-1966). And they had two children, one of which was me--John Franklin Walker, Jr., 1938.

John F. Walker
