Thomas Alexander Boyd Adams County, Pa to Illinois THOMAS ALEXANDER BOYD, a Representative from Illinois; born near Bedford, Adams County, Pa., June 25, 1830; attended the public schools; was graduated from Marshall College, Mercersburg, Pa., in 1848; studied law in Chambersburg, Pa.; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in [p.877] Bedford, Pa.; moved to Lewistown, Ill., in 1856 and engaged in the practice of law until 1861; during the Civil War enlisted in the Seventeenth Regiment, Illinois Infantry, in 1861 and obtained the commission of captain; member of the State senate in 1866 and was reelected in 1870;elected as a Republican to the Forty-fifth and Forty-sixth Congresses (March 4, 1877-March 3,1881); was not a candidate for re-nomination in 1880; resumed the practice of law; died in Lewistown, Fulton County, Ill., May 28, 1897; interment in Oak Hill Cemetery.
