Robert and Sarah Boyd
Beaver County, PA
Mary BOYD was the daughter of Robert and Sarah _____? BOYD. Robert BOYD
appears in Beaver Co. censuses as early as 1800. Robert, d.1826 and Sarah
BOYD, d. c1838, had the following children with them in Big Beaver Twp.,
Beaver Co., PA. The will of Robert BOYD, registered 14 Jan 1826, lists the
children and a $5 bequest to his granddaughter Sarah. Later land records
provided the names of his married daughter’s husbands and provided the
details of where they were. Robert BOYD left ½ his plantation to his son
Andrew and the other ½ to his wife Sarah with provision that upon her death
it was to be sold and the proceeds equally divided amongst his daughters.
Mary Boyd, b. c1784 in PA, and married Jacob ASHBAUGH, c. 1802, in Beaver
Co., Pennsylvania. Jacob and Mary later moved in Pike, Perry Co., Ohio about
1821. 1822 Cecil Co., MD land records show Jacob hiring John Butler, Esq. of
Pickaway Co., OH to pursue a claim Jacob made for his share of the estate
belonging to his parents Jacob and Sarah ASHBAUGH.
William Boyd b. 1778, d. 1814 in Crawford Co., PA. Married Margaret ____?
and she was granted a pension for his service in the War of 1812 after his
death. Had 1 daughter Sarah Boyd.
Margaret Boyd b. c1779, and married William Wilson c.1799. Margaret and Wm.
Wilson also moved to Pike, Perry Co., Ohio.
Andrew Boyd b. c1780, and he remained in Beaver Co. after inheriting ½ of
the estate at Robert Boyd’s death. He married unknown though a Sarah Wilson
is possible. The 1830 census shows 1 boy under 5, 1 boy 5-10, 1 boy 10-15, 1
boy 15-20, 1 girl 15-20, a woman 20-30 and 1 woman 40-50 in addition to
himself.
Sarah Boyd b. 1782, married Richard Lewis. Richard appears in 1830 in Big
Beaver Twp. but according to the estate of Robert BOYD Sarah was a widow
living in Mercer Co. in 1839 and she appears as head of house in the 1840
census of Lackawannock, Mercer Co. Possible children of Sarah BOYD and
Richard LEWIS include:
Anna, possibly married to a WALKER.
Hannah, b. c1825, d. after 1880
Morrison, b. c.1827
Elizabeth Boyd b. c.1800 PA, married Thomas Foster, c1819, d. ?. Thomas
Foster is cited as head of household in 1830 census of Big Beaver Twp. and
is next door to Andrew BOYD. The census shows a woman of over 60 years of
age living with him and most likely is Robert BOYD’s widow Sarah who is not
cited in 1830. 1830 census show Thomas & Elizabeth with 1 boy under 5, 2
girls under 5, 2 boys 10-15 and 2 girls 10-15 as well.
Jane (Jennet) Boyd b. c.1795, married Andrew Foster. The 1830 census of Big
Beaver Twp. has Andrew Foster with 1 boy under 5, 1 girl under 5 and 2 girls
5-10 in his household. The 1850 census of Big Beaver Twp. shows a Jane
Foster as head of family and includes Martin , age 20, William, 18, and
Robert, 15, though we are not certain this is our Jane Foster at this time.
