OHIO OBITUARIES

Moses Boyd, a well known and highly respected citizen of Lee Township, was born at Steubenville, December 10, 1837, and died at his home near Harlem Springs, August 1, 1900. He, with his parents Moses and Jane Boyd (nee Craig) and four brothers came to Yellow Creek when he was two years old, and leaves two surviving members of his family, Thomas N. Boyd and Mrs. William Drake. After he was married he moved to Knoxville, then to Mt. Pleasant, and came to Harlem in 1893.

He had been ailing for about eight months, most of the time confined to his room and bed. He bore his afflictions with remarkable patience and was completely resigned to his master's will. He comforted his wife and children with the assurance that "all would be well with him," and wanted them to meet him in that home above. One of the hymns which he had the family sing to him frequently was, "Oh, think of the home over there." He was converted and joined the M. E. Church at Amsterdam when he was 21 years of age and lived an exemplary life until his death. He was a man of deep thought, well versed in scripture and firm in his religious convictions as he was in every other cause which he thought to be right. He was a kind husband, an indulgent father and a good neighbor. He possessed a jovial and social nature which won him many friends wherever he was known and will be missed by a wide circle of friends.

He was married to Matilda Peterson, October 15, 1863, by which union five sons and two daughters were born, five of whom are married: Marion E., Mrs. Cora Moore, Thomas F. and Joseph B., all of Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Nettie Burrier of Specht and John D. and Moses C. at home, all of whom were present the last week or two of his illness. John had charge of his father during his entire sickness and deserves credit for the faithful and untiring manner in which he performed the work.

August 12, 1862, he enlisted in the Civil War in Co. E 52nd Regiment O. V. I. and was discharged January 12, 1863, on account of disease from which he never fully recovered. The remains were interred at Circle Green Cemetery Thursday, August 2nd. The funeral exercise were conducted by Rev. Piggot, assisted by the G.A.R. Post of which the deceased held the office of chaplain at the time of his death. Carroll Chronicle, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, August 17, 1900.
