Pliny Steele Boyd

 


Pliny Steele Boyd, son of Thomas P. Boyd and Anna STEELE, was born at Griegsville, Livingston county, New York 18 May 1836. He was a Congregational clergyman who graduated from Oberlin College in 1860. 
He studied Theology at Andover Theological Seminary from 1862 to 1865. He was ordained and installed as pastor of the Congregational church at Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts, in 1867. He was a pastor at Granby, Massachusetts when he died. He married 16 September 1860, Mary Jane ALLEN, born at Southbridge, Massachusetts, 16 September 1836. She was the daughter of Rev. Ralph Willard ALLEN and Mary Jones TOWER. She died at Bloomfield, NJ on 2 December 1905. [family bible]

4. Maurice Chester Boyd b. 16 June 1869 d. 14 Mar 1949 (Italy) m. Mary Guion OAKES 4 May 1925 Bloomfield, NJ Maurice worked for the Red Cross in Italy and was given the highest award Italy could give a foreigner. At the breakout of World War II he was on the last ship to leave Italy. He died in Taormina, Italy. [JBD] [bible]

5. Charles Allen Boyd b. 23 July 1874 d. 11 Feb 1911
m. Betsy WHITING 20 June 1906 Brooklyn, NY

Charles (Allen) attended but did not graduate from Amherst College, class of 1898; prepared at Cushing Academy, Ashburnham, MA; principal of grammar school, Brooklyn, NY 1901-1903. Amherst College Biographical Record 1951]. He graduated from Brown University, class of 1896 [Brown Historical Catalogue, 1950] [JBD]

6. Pliny Arthur Boyd b. 10 Mar 1876 d.
m. 1st Estelle E. NEWTON 28 Apr 1903 Bloomfield, NJ. [family bible]
m. 2nd Isobel HIGH ca. 1951

Isobel was Pliny's secretary for years and much younger than he. As he grew weaker and needed more physical help, they became concerned over what people might think about their relationship, so they asked minister's advice, who told them, "get married." So they did. [Jane Boyd Drury] Pliny graduated from Brown University, class of 1898. He was president of Everett & Barron Co. Mfg. Residence: Bloomfield, NJ. [Brown University Catalog, 1950] Summers were spent at South Hero, Vermont and his widow reside there 
until her own death. She is buried in South Hero, VT. Children: John, Helen who married Dean MARQUIS and Frances.
