Last Will and Testament

        Last Will and Testament of Alexander Boyd

Be it known to all Christian people whom these may concern, that I Alexander Boyd of West Nottingham in Cecil Co. and State of Maryland, being weak in body; but of sound, memory, calling to mind my uncertainty in this life, Do make my last Will and testament in manner and form following Viz., First, My will is that Body maybe decently buried in a plain an Christian manner, and my Funeral charges and just Debts be paid and discharged as soon as they can be conveniently after my decease. Secondly, I leave unto my beloved wife Margaret Boyd, while she remains my widow, all my Plantation whereon I now live, Together with the remainder and residue of my personal Estate after my Just debts are discharged, To support her in Bringing up and Schooling my children; But in case my widow should marry again My will is that she shall have the one full half part of my Personal Estate after my debts are Discharged which she shall have and receive in lieu of her Thirds of my Plantation and Personal Estate. Thirdly, My will is that on my widow's marriage or Decease whichever shall happen first, my Plantation shall be sold at Publick Sale by my Executors herein after Named and the money thence arising from said sale, with the other half part of my personal Estate shall be equally divided among my five children viz. my Daughter Margaret Boyd and son's Robert Boyd, Hugh Boyd, Francis Boyd, and Alexander Boyd. But in case any of my said children should die before they arive to full age, the Share or shares of the Deceased child or children shall be equally divided among my surviving children. Fourthly and Lastly, I do hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my brother Francis Boyd and Robert Finley and Robert McDowell to be Executors of this My last will and Testament, hereby revoking, disannulling and disallowing all other Wills, testaments, Legacies and Executors by me made; and confirming this, and this only to be my last will and testament. In witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and seal the Twenty Seventh day of November Anno Domini One thousand seven hundred and Eighty. signed sealed and declared by the said Alexander Boyd to be his last Will and Testament In the presence of us.

Cecil Co.  on the 14th day of Dec 1780 came Margaret Boyd and acknowledged herself to be well content and satisfied that the oath of Francis Boyd and affirmation of William Allen be taken in Proof of the within Will of her late Husband Alexander Boyd.      acknowledged before
