WILLIAM BOYD, senior partner of the firm of Boyd and Bro., at Cornersville, Lincoln County, Ark., was born in Greene County, Ala., on April 18, 1851, being the son of WILLIAM BOYD and JEANETTE W. (MILLER) BOYD, natives of South Carolina.  His parents were married in S. Carolina and moved to Alabama, a location in Greene County. There the mother died when the subject of this sketch was a very small boy. The father was a merchant and planter, and died in Lincoln County in the year 1875. He belonged to the Presbyterian Church. William was the eighth of nine children born to his parents, and passed his youth in this county, and here received a fair education. His first business venture was farming, but in 1883 he commenced a mercantile business with ROBERT BOYD as partner, a partnership which still continues to meet with great success.  He was, in 1886, appointed justice of the peace.  In 1883, Mr. Boyd married MISS FLORA DODD, daughter of William P. Dodd, and they have been blessed with three children: JESSE B. BOYD, MAGGIE J. BOYD and WILLIAM H. BOYD   Both Mr. and Mrs. Boyd are members of the Cumberland Presbyterian church, of which the former is an elder. The subject of this sketch belongs to the class commonly termed “self-made Men,” having won success and wealth by his own exertions, and superior judgement.
