Patrick Boyd / Ann McDowell Monroe Co; West Virginia PATRICK BOYD, (1759-1835) an orphan, was in 1772 bound to John Crawford, a blacksmith. Four years later he came before the Augusta court to complain of ill treatment by his master. By 1783 he was living on the place now occupied by his grandson, EDWARD BOYD, and had a shop where he pursued the trade of blacksmith and bellmaker. He acquired much property and left his children well provided for. It is thought that his father's name was ROBERT and that his mother was a PORTERFIELD. Source: A History of Monroe County, West Virginia Oren F. Morton, B. Lit. Staunton, VA The McClure Company, Inc.1916 p. 314-315 Hello Richard, I found you via Rootsweb.com and I looked at some of
the Boyd website. Very Nice! I am from Monroe County, West Virginia and
there is a cemetery there that is all but lost. I have decided to work
on it as a project, which is turning out to be a huge effort! There are
Boyds buried in this Cemetery (The Old Lebanon Cemetery). It dates back
to 1803, which is 10 years older than the Old Rehobeth Cemetery (on the
historical registry). I am curious if you have studied the Boyds of
Monroe at all. The oldest known Boyd in Lebanon is a Thomas b. abt 1790
and was buried in 1878. His wife was a Margaret. This cemetery is of
great historical interest to the County's formation and I am trying to
piece the lives of those people together. I appreciate you reading my
ramblings and look forward to hearing from you. I will study your
website further! Thanks My GGGGGrand Father is Patrick Boyd, his wife Anna. And I have family in that cemetery. Margaret is the daughter of Patrick and Ann. They had 6 children, Patrick Porterfield Boyd, Robert Boyd, Esther Boyd, Jane M. Boyd, Margaret Boyd and Nelly Boyd. Patrick Porterfield Boyd is the one I am related through. I have been to the Old MT. Lebanon Cemetery and even cut the weeds out there to find those markers you were talking about. There is also another large tomb stone that has C.W. Boyd and A.B. Boyd on it that my brother and I found and turned over. It was buried and we found it and tried to set it back on the foundation, but we didn't have enough strength to do it. My brother and I are very much interested in that cemetery and would be willing to help in some way.
