West Virginia Cemeteries and Tombstone Inscriptions

The West Virginia Historical Records Survey compiled the Cemetery
Readings in West Virginia in 1939 and 1940. This is a large collection
of cemetery descriptions, locations, and tombstone inscriptions. These
records are described in the Family History Library Catalog under each
county (FHL films 250207-10). The original documents are at the West
Virginia University Library, Morgantown.

WEST VIRGINIA. HAMPSHIRE COUNTY CEMETERIES.
Volunteers are trying to catalog and inventory as many of the County's cemeteries as possible by time for the 2004 celebration of its 250th year. If you wish to donate time, information, or research, contact Robert Wayne McGahuey rwayne@citynet.net , HC 83 Box 39BB, Capon Bridge WV 26711. [It appears there are now more than 100 cemeteries listed, many with links to pages for he individual cemeteries, at which there are at minimum a photo and directions to that cemetery.]

NOTES TO RESEARCHERS

When you use this site, please keep in mind the difference between primary and secondary sources and the importance of checking those sources. Accept nothing without further checking. It is our hope that through this collection of data from many sources, you will find a piece of the puzzle that you are working on and that may lead you to other discoveries.
