Will of
Thomas Boyd, Sr of York Co; SC
I, Thomas
Boyd Sr. of York District, York County Courthouse, Being of sound
mind and memory and good health. Do this day the 10 Nov 1834 make this
my last will and testament. I will to my beloved wife Elizabeth
BOYD during her natural life the house and the tract of land whereon I
now live, adj. lands of James BOYD, Samuel SMITH, William BOYD, Robert
BOYD, Aquilla DYSON (with the exception of the privilege to be hereafter mentioned to my dtr. Nancy
SMITH on said land.) Also I give to my wife during her natural life negroes
viz: Virgil, Bacchus, Amanda, Mitchel and Melinda, also my household and
kitchen furniture, all stock, horses, cattle, hogs, farming gear and
tools, also all corn, wheat, cotton and crops of every description.
My wife is to pay all my just debts.
I will to my son John BOYD my wearing apparel, having given him
heretofore all that I allow him. I will to my dtr. Nancy SMITH the
privilege of living in the house wherein she now lives on my land, to
have use of the spring, and firewood, etc. and as much land as she and
her chn. can cultivate, convenient and adjacent to her house. This
priviedge to continue as long as she lives separate from her husband
Wm. SMITH and no longer. I allow her mother to furnish her yearly
ten dollars worth of provision during her mothers life, which I allow to
be continued by my son Bennet Franklin BOYD so long as he becomes
possessed of my land after the death of his mother during the life of
said Nancy or her separation from her husband. I have given to my
son Thomas Jefferson BOYD all that I allow him. I have given to my
son Robert BOYD all that I allow him, but it is my desire that at the
time of my youngest child is twenty-one years old, and if my wife is
dead or at her death. That he take my negro boy Virgil at the
valued price and pay over to my executors for the use of my dtrs. here
after mentioned. To my son James BOYD I have given him all I
allow. To my son William BOYD I have given him all I allow, but I
desire him to take my negro boy Bacchus when my youngest child is at the
age of twenty-one and if my wife is deceased, if at her demise to Pay
over to my executors his value for the use of dtrs. here after
mentioned. To my son Bennet Franklin BOYD at the death of his
mother the plantation where I now live subject to the incumbrances of my
daughter Nancy, and that my five daughters to have a home while they are
single, also after the death of his mother, I allow him my negro boy
Mitchel and my cupboard and clock. I will to my five dtrs. viz:
Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Rachel and Louisa each to have a bed and
furniture, a horse, worth fifty dollars, a saddle and bridle, and a
spinning wheel. I also allow the last named five dtrs. an equal
division of the negroes Virgil and Buccus also Amanda and Melinda at the
time of my wife death, or the youngest child is twenty-one years old.
I allow my threashing
machine to my son William. I appoint my wife executrix and my son
John BOYD
executor. Wit: Wm. MOORE, John McGILL, John GLENN, Wm.
CAMPBELL.
