William Boyd and Margaret Lyons

Co Tyrone to Charleston, SC 1804


WILLIAM BOYD, son of SAMUEL BOYD, was born 1747 in County Tyrone,
Ireland. He married MARGARET LYONS. In 1804, he took his family on the ship "LADY WASHINGTON" and landed in Charleston, SC.

WILLIAM BOYD was born 1778 in County Tyrone, Ireland. He died January 20,
1836 in Randolph Co., IL. He and his wife, ELIZABETH "BETSY" VERNOR moved to Randolph County in the early 1800's from South Carolina. Both are buried in the Preston, Randolph Co., IL, Cemetery. William and "Betsy" are shown in the early records of the Old Springfield A.R.P., and among the early
Scotch-Irish Presbyterians settling in this area.

They had the following children:

MARGARET BOYD (b.1801) who married Andrew Beaty,

ELIZABETH VERNOR BOYD (1803-1866) who married Joseph Samuel Guthrie,

JOHN BOYD (1805-1860) who married Rachel Beaty,

WILLIAM BOYD (1808-1882) who married Gincy Thompson

SAMUEL BOYD (1810-1875) who married 1st Jemima Baird and 2nd Margaret Dunn Moore,

NANCY BOYD (1813-1883) who married John Miller,

JANE "JENNIE" BOYD (1816-1885) who married  11-4-1847 John Mitchell Blair in Randolph Co., IL son of Robert and Jane Mitchell Blair,

ROBERT V. BOYD (b.1818) who married 1st 4-24-1845 Ellen Blair, daughter of Robert and Jane Mitchell Blair, in Randolph Co., IL and married 2nd Elizabeth Wilson,

MARTHA BOYD (1820-1899) who married James Harry Clendenin,

GEORGE FILMORE BOYD (1824-1846) ,

JAMES J. BOYD (1826-1864) who married Missouri Wright, daughter of Stephen and Margaret Kelly Wright,

LUCINDA BOYD (1829-1899) who married 10-12-1848 John Kelly Wright in Randolph Co., IL, the son of Stephen and Margaret Kelly Wright.

JAMES J. BOYD was born 1815 in Randolph Co., IL, died December 16, 1864 in Randolph Co., IL. He married MISSOURI WRIGHT (daughter of Stephen and Margaret Kelly Wright) September 9, 1845. Both are buried at the Preston Cemetery. They had the following children: GEORGE WRIGHT BOYD
(1826-1846) who married 1st Sarah Holliday, 2nd married Mary Ann Houston, MARGARET E. BOYD (1848-1934), STEPHEN FILMORE BOYD (1849-1900), JOHN L. BOYD (1857-1936), CLEMENTINE BOYD (1861-1939), MARY "MOLLIE" BOYD, WILLIAM BOYD, ELIZA F. BOYD (d. 1942).

GEORGE WRIGHT BOYD was born October 18, 1846 in Randolph Co., IL, died February 20, 1928. He is buried at Preston Cemetery with his first wife, SARAH HOLLIDAY. He married second December 14, 1882 MARY ANN HOUSTON (daughter of Willaim M. and Mary McMillan Houston) She moved after George's death to Glendale, CA with her sons; William Guthrie ("Guthrie") Boyd, John Willard ("Willard") Boyd, and daughter, Flora Boyd who married Clarence Temple. Son, George Stewart Boyd remained on family ground in the Houston, Randolph Co., IL area. Mary Ann Houston Boyd is buried in Glendale, CA. Besides the above four mentioned children from second marriage, George Wright Boyd had two daughters by first wife, Sarah. MARGARET LYONS "LINA" BOYD, who married John Muir Craig, and another FLORA BOYD (1869-1875). The first Flora is buried along side her parents at Preston Cemetery.

GEORGE STEWART BOYD was born April 9, 1893 near Houston, Randolph Co., IL and died September 1977 in Sparta, IL. He is buried at the Marissa City
Cemetery in St. Clair Co., IL. On October 30, 1918, he married RACHEL RUTH ("RUTH") HOLMES (daughter of William G. and Rachel Quirk Holmes). To this union were born two sons, WILBUR KEITH BOYD (b.1919) and CLYDE BYRON BOYD(1926-1988).

CLYDE BYRON BOYD was born August 21, 1926 near Houston, Randolph Co., IL and died in rural Sparta, Randolph Co., 8-1988 and buried in St. Clair Co., IL at Marissa City Cemetery. He married April 12, 1945 MARIAN MAE FULTON, daughter of William Prentice and Gladys Florence Eaton Fulton, in Paducah, KY. To this union was born 4 children: JOAN KAY BOYD (b.1945) who married Paul Wayne McVay, WILLIAM GEORGE "GEORGE" BOYD (b.1947) who married Jane Ann Wiley, NANCY FLORENCE BOYD (b.1954) who married GERALD MEYERHOFF, and JEAN ANN BOYD (b.1957) who married 1st Gerald Eric Ross, 2nd David James Dickey, both marriages ending in divorce.

WILLIAM GEORGE "GEORGE" BOYD was born January 13, 1947 in Sparta, IL. He married August 29,1970 in Sparta, IL, JANE ANN WILEY, daughter of Wilber Adams and Elberta L. Hawthorne Wiley. To this union was born one daughter, RACHEL CLAIRE BOYD born November 13, 1976 in Sparta, IL.
