My grandmother's name was Emma BOYD
Doliber of Sidney Mines, Nova Scotia. She was the wife of Earl
Laskey Doliber, a contractor/multiple real estate owner/Shriner/Philanthropist.
My father was her youngest of four sons, Earl Laskey Doliber, Jr..
Her other sons were Howard (eldest), Edgar (second eldest) and
Emerson (third eldest).
It is my understanding that Emma was a twin. Allegedly her twin
sister died at age eight years. When they were in their late teens
Emma and sisters Sadie and Rose left Sidney Mines. Emma and Sadie
ended up in Marblehead, Massachusetts while Rose went on to Connecticut.
It was Sadie who told me that upon their arrival she and Emma
became housekeepers on the Neck here in Marblehead, Massachusetts.
Sadie also told me that she thought that Emma was perhaps five
years older that Pops (Earl L. Sr.). If that is true Nana (Emma)
was actually closer to 107 years old when she died rather than
the 104 years mentioned in her obituary. Emma's actual age has
always been a puzzle as she was not one to say. My mother, Mary
Boggis Doliber, tried was in contact with officials in the Halifax area
regarding a birth certificate for Emma. She was told that the
documents had all been burned in a fire.
Emma's obituary based on my knowledge was incorrect in that she actually
had 14 grandchildren, not 15. Her great grandchildren do
indeed number 27. The most current figure on Emma's great-great
grandchildren is up from six at the time of her death to 10 to
the best of my knowledge.
If any of the Boyd's know of Emma and her twin, I would be very
interested in hearing from them. Thank you.
Sandra Doliber Campbell
